Beyond the Obvious – Episode with Ben Farinazzo

Ben-Wave

In this conversation, I chat with Ben Farinazzo. Ben is an Australia Day Ambassador and passionate advocate for mental health, veterans and the healing power of sport.

You have probably come across Ben around the time of the Invictus Games, where he won gold medals in powerlifting and indoor rowing.

Whilst winning gold medals is impressive in itself, it’s Ben’s journey that led to them that’s amazing.

Ben served in the Australian Defense Force, culminating in a tour to East Timor, where he experienced trauma that is difficult to imagine. Years later, in the midst of a major breakdown, being diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Ben then broke his back and neck in a biking accident; as if his mental health challenges weren’t enough.

What I particularly loved about this chat with Ben was how he was able to shift his perspective on life through massively challenging circumstances. While the need for flexibility of mind was forced upon him, he embraced it and is a beautiful and humble human being because of it.

I finished the conversation with Ben feeling grounded and grateful. I hope it has the same effect on you. Enjoy.

End Note
